Is it installed the right way? I have seen them put on wrong, and they will rub on the motor mount or crossmember. Just can't remember exactly what.

Have you checked the tensioner, pulley alignment, idler bearings, overall belt tension? Any wear patterns on the belt BEFORE it breaks/shreds?

Alignment problems with the auto tensioner can be an issue .
Can you post a picture of the damaged belt ?
Tensioner issues usually start the damage on one edge and can peal the serpentine belt off one grove at a time .
Does your belt drive both the alternator and dash A/C compressor , as well as the water pump ?
A/C compressor over charge can lead to belt slip and overheating then failure.

That's what happened to mine. Lost one groove.
Replaced the belt in Yuma, and waited till I got home to replace the tensioner.
As you can imagine Skip, haven't been able to put enough miles on her lately to find out if the tensioner was the issue !
Belt's running true though!

The belt tensioner should be replaced when the belt is replaced:

I replaced the belt and the tensioner and took off to the CG 125 miles away. When I got there I walked around to the back of the coach and saw a lot of black spaghetti looking "belt" hanging out of the vents in the hood. Got a "close" belt at an auto parts place and creeped home.
After reading and talking here on iRV2 I took off the new tensioner and saw rust on the steel mount that the tensioner mounted to. I guess it was enough to add a little angle, enough that the belt crept over one groove at a time and was shredded by a pulley or something. I ground it all off and painted it. Remounted the tensioner and haven't had a problem since.

Serpentine belt
Thanks for the feedback
Because this has happened to many times I check the belt often and have never seen any wear
I am going to have the ac pressure checked however
3 of the 4 times it was after using the exhaust break and I wondered if the high rpm was contributing
Especially if ac was on also and compressor kicking on or off
I had already decided to avoid that combo in the future

Gates makes a green Kevlar belt that is supposed to last much longer than a conventional belt. You will have to cross over the part number.
