Stuck on rt 10 coolant temp high. Leaking.

We have a Cummins ISB 6.7 L CM2150. Have a CEL for coolant temp. I made it to a rest stop. Here is what I have. Coolant loss from something on the engine. Radiator seems fine. Trans intercooler is fine. There are several devices in that area but I do not yet know what they are of if they handle coolant. Remember that the engine has the fan and radiator on the rear. On the passenger side halfway down there are several things that are wet and could be it. One is round with flat ends The first and second photos show the area of the leak. has a blue pipe attached. Could it hold coolant? There is a smaller cylinder which looks to have a blue cap and is very wet. The third photo is from above for reference. Any advice especially if you have had a leak there would be appreciated. We will be checking the manual for hints and probably adding coolant and starting it up to look for leaks.

Can you add coolant and start the engine to see if you can identify where the leak is?

Do you have a Cummins Quickserve account, this is a good resouce and would probably show you the info you are looking for
https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html
You have create and account and then register your engine using the SN. Once it's in the system you can do some quick searches using key words.

Ours is a Cat, but we had a coolant hose work loose a couple of years ago. All it was was a clamp that had loosened. I added coolant and the leak became obvious. I tightened the clamp and was on my way.

Hope yours is that simple.

We are at a Loves repair shop and one of the mechanics took a quick look and found it right away. When he did I was amazed because I had just read a post in iRV2 about just the same thing. There are two metal pipes that carry coolant along the passenger side of the engine. They cross each other and they touch. Given tome, 62,000 miles in our case one of them wears through causing a spray of coolant that soaks everything on that side, making it hard to find the source. One side had a half moon divot with a small hole in it. The other was ready to go. They will replace them with hoses so we can get going. I can swap them out with metal if I want later. Might take hours to get to it but I do appreciate getting on the way tonight.

I really wish I could find the post but I could not.

That's good news. Love's repair shops have always treated me right.
Happy Trails.

In today's world it's always nice to hear good news. We're all glad it was simple and you won't be tied up for months waiting for parts.
Happy travels!

Glad you got the problem identified and it is a reasonable fix.

Thanks for posting about Loves repair. Good to know about options of places that will take care of an RV in need.

Great you got it worked out. When you get a chance, protect the hoses/pipes with plastic loom secured with zip ties. I've found fuel lines trying to wear holes in themselves.

Glad you got it fixed. If a spray of coolant reaches your intake it can cause diesel runaway because it's flammable! So, if your were frustrated by your situation please look at the bright side. Safe travels!

That’s a new one on me. No reason to give folks something else to worry about.

Happy Trails.
They really did. When I called the guy said they worked with much bigger engines but they would be glad to take a look and offered to send someone to the rest stop to see what it needed. Since it was only three miles I added some distilled water and drove it. They said if we had to wait for parts we could park free in the lot. Rob took a look at it right away and spotted it immediately. The managed to get us in within a couple of hours and Rob fixed it quickly and cheaply. They did not have the metal pipe but replaced it with a hose. All were friendly and said it was a good place to work. I now know where to go for service anywhere in the country!

Interesting that you should mention it. Rob did wrap the other pipe with a slit rubber hose zip tied on.

Here are pictures of the pipe. You can see the place where it wore. You can't see the little crack but when the pressure came up it sprayed all over.

Noooooo, coolant isn't flamable.

But more importantly, when a coolant vapor is compressed in a diesel engine will it promote combustion? A diesel shop owner told me of runaway diesel engines that were inhaling a coolant spray from modern coolants. He had no reason to lie and had a lifetime of experience servicing heavy equipment. Me? I spent 35 years in fire protection lighting most everything on fire and putting them out. Most refrigerants and even fire suppression agents are flammable given the right circumstances such as temperature, pressure and even humidity.
