ULSD

Okay, stupid question but I have never owned a diesel powered anything and now I have a new RV with a Cummins. So, do all stations like Chevron, Shell, Exxon sell ULSD?
Thanks.

No such thing as stupid question. Yes, all clear diesel at service stations you will find have Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. Has been so since 2006. Clear diesel means no dye, fuel is almost clear.

Dyed diesel is for off road use. It is dyed red. Sold without taxes and may be higher sulfur content. Don't put it in highway vehicles.

A note since you are new to diesels. Do not ever run out of fuel. No big deal with a gas burner. Can be big problem with a diesel engine. Forget there is an "E" on the gauge. 1/4 tank is now "E".

Short answer..Yes.. as per the Fed.
Do NOT buy red dyed diesel, as that is not taxed for highway usages.. (Off Road/Farm use only)
Sign up for the TSD/Open Roads {EFS system} Discount fleet pricing program.
Also sign up for the "Mudflap" Discount fleet pricing program..
Will help you save a buck or three..
Happy trails.

Diesel is a NEW fuel for OP

OP could get confused and purchase it due to lower pricing

Just a word of caution.......

OP.......
Also pay attention when fueling at muti-hose pumps (Gas/diesel)
Make sure you use the diesel hose --- and not get confused by color of nozzles (no standard color)

The OP stated that He is a total newbie about buying diesel.. any diesel. Therefore, He might see the dyed [or just labeled "Farm Use"] diesel at a lower price and be tempted to purchase it in order to save a few dollars.

Happy trails.

Effective 1/1-23, the TSD/Open Roads will no longer allow transactions of any type at Pilot ,Flying J or One9 locations.
So that limits the stations quite a bit. A quick look at the Open Roads app for my area, it shows mostly Petro/TA, Love's and Speedway.
And looks like Love's discount pricing is now comparable to Petro/TA.
I've never tried a Speedway and looking at satellite views, does not look like any of them are for Semis or RVs.

re: Speedway and others.. Those that are listed are compatible with 18 wheelers,, so You will fit no issues.
The same goes for retailers listed in the Mudflap app.

Off and On road fuel is now the same sulfur content. With Tier-4 emissions it's all ULSD.
The red dye denotes off road only....and as stated, no federal road use tax. Although some states have a sales or local tax on it...

OP, try to purchase fuel where they sell a lot of it, that'll help keep algae and stuff out of your tank. You can bet the fuel in a tank at a big truck stop is turning regularly.

Enjoy your beautiful new coach!

I had assumed that your question was whether or not your coach engine was designed with ULSD in mind. Cummins started the transition in 2004. So, you are good to go.

If your question is where to find ULSD, then as others have stated - it is all you can buy.
