Using the primer pump on the fuel/water filter

In changing the Alliance fuel/water filter on my Cummins diesel engine I see on the primer pump that it says to open the air valve before starting to use the pump.
But I don't know where to look for the air valve to open. Anyone able to describe the location/use of this air valve?

Assuming you have an ISB engine; There should be a smallish bolt/screw on top the filter housing to loosen a bit and allow air to escape. When the filter gets full diesel comes out of the air bleed hole.

I think my engine is the ISL (never can remember those 3 letters). There is a 6 sided Allen plug at each line connection but haven't seen any bolt.

Sorry I can't help. Even my information about the filter housing for the ISB was only for pre-1997 engines.

Make sur you prefill the filter too so you don't have to prime much.
