So, I currently have 50,000 miles on my single cam 525 hp ISX, and according to the video, I'll need an overhaul at 400,000. At about 10,000/year, that's 35 years from now. I can live with that.

Well, I've got 64,000 miles and am on the third rebuild due to Cummins selection of the wrong (cheaper) valve and seat materials. I'm out $53,000 due to that on my ISX 650.

Cummins dropped the ball on this series and unfortunately did not adequately support the RV owners of the ISX engine. I am unsure how much it would have cost Cummins to pick up more of the cost of repair for us motorhome owners. It should not have been a major expense as the RV industry is small compared to the OTR crowd. The later engine revisions have helped though.
Some trucking companies order 5,000 units at a time so engine manufacturers might have to balance their generosity by calculating the longevity of certain engine models.

I would say the majority of new coach buyers are much more concerned about the paint quality of their coach, the number of upgrades inside and the quality of the cabinets. The sales person will vouch for the drive train!

When I purchased my coach I wasn't aware of the ISX problems. Thanks to this forum, I'm better informed. Fortunately, for me, Ive got the single cam, 525 horse engine built in '13 and not the 600+ hp double cam engine built earlier that account for most of the failures. I had some panic moments while researching the issue, but could not find many if any failures for my particular engine. I certainly feel for those who have had issues.
