What's your favorite FASS install thread?

Hi,

I have been messing around with what I believe is a fuel starvation problem that's causing a power loss on long, steep grades and thought I'd invest in a FASS system for my 01 HR Scepter with the Cummins ISC.

It seems to be a pretty popular install and while I've been reading through the various posts in an attempt to educate myself, I'm interested in hearing from others if they have a favorite thread/writeup they'd recommend.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

JLE

There are a ton of specific threads for the FASS or Airdog installation, especially on the Cummins CAPS systems.

My installation is incorporated into my coach thread repair and modifications as I did mine a bit different than most where I mounted mine up front close to the tank and only required a short return line to the tank. Many mount theirs in the engine bay requiring a long run of return hose through the belly of the coach. I also did a YouTube video of my installation.

If you have a fuel delivery problem I would try and diagnose that first to determine to ensure it isn't an air leak creating a cavitation issue but I would definitely get it resolved before damaging the CAPS pump. You will very much like the FASS system afterwards if for nothing more than peace of mind knowing you are giving the CAPS pump the very best chance for survival.

Thanks for your help!

In short, on a long steep grade after about 25 seconds the boost drops and I start slowing down. Downshifting will increase the RPM's but the coach will slow to about 25 mph and will start to overheat. It's very consistent in the time before things start happening and while the speed before the 25 sec mark might drop a little, the engine seems strong. It's almost like flipping a switch. No engine codes. I sometimes travel with a friend with a coach with the same chassis, year, etc. and he doesn't have this problem.

I've "tightened the bolts" and changed filters a bizillion times but this didn't seem to help. I had it at one shop but they didn't find anything and I live in central Illinois so no nearby hills for a shop to test drive on. With Bluefire, I can log the computer output but it's been difficult to drive and manage the data capture.

If you are loosing boost I'd be looking in that area. No boost, no power.

Check for any collapsed hoses/elbows that restrict air flow. Look for any loose clamps between the turbo and the CAC and from the CAC to the engine. Take soapy water and spray the CAC down and look for leak. It will probably show some leaks but if it's bad you'll know it.

When was the last time you changed your air filter.

Make sure your exhaust brake isn't staying engaged.

As far as FASS installs I had looked at several that I used info from and I pretty much copied how/where Zmotorsports did his. I liked the idea of mounting it at the tank and pushing fuel back to the engine versus trying to pull it.
