I have a new coach that now has around 1750 miles on it. Any ideas as to when it will regen. I know it has a dash symbol when it is occurring, but I was just wondering if anyone had already experienced a regen and how many miles were on the engine. Thanks.

Regen depends on your usage, idling and low RPM operation decreases the time between regen cycles. I have almost 7000 miles on mine, it has not gone into a regen cycle yet. Seems I remember reading in owners manual that under normal operation, using all the right fuel and lubricants, regen should happen every 25K-30K miles but I could be wrong.

Wow, 7K and no regen, being a Ford diesel guy with my PU's, although the new one is a GMC Sierra gasser, I have been reading posts in the Ford forums of regens as low as 600 miles, but then again, this is a Cummins and those are Fords.

Regeneration of the diesel particulate filter. Only on engines manufactured since 1-1-07.

Here is an explanation of a truck displayed at a convention.

The DPF displayed was configured for vertical installation and was only a little larger than a conventional muffler. It has an oxycatalyst stage ahead of the monolithic particulate filter with temperature sensors at the inlet, mid-chamber and at the outlet and pressure sensors measure the pressure drop across the filter stage.
The oxycat oxidizes nitrous oxide in the engine-out exhaust to nitrogen dioxide which – if the filter matrix is at a high enough temperature – will react with the carbon to produce carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, purging the particulate matter from the filter. This continuous purging of the carbon is passive regeneration and in many applications goes on in normal truck operation. For extreme cold or in applications where the exhaust cannot be brought to temperature, active regeneration sees a very small dose of fuel injected into the exhaust stream to heat the matrix to promote the chemical reaction that removes the carbon. .

Ecker (Leo), you amaze all of us with your knowledge of diesel engines, and Cummins in particular. I assume you are an engineer by trade.
