1996 cat 3126 check engine and derates

My 1996 cat 3126 derates after running for a while. I have checked the radiator seems clean, but used simple green and strong hose from the inside aft. Taking it to caterpiller tomorrow. If they have to replace the thermostats, what is a fair price for that? The engine just barely hits 220 when it derates.

220* is too hot. I changed th thermostats in a KAL prefix C7 the other day. The parts were $38 without tax and I charged two hours. It took me slightly longer than that by the time I BS'd with the owner but the job is only 6 bolts, one hose clamp and draining and refilling the coolant. If you do it make sure to fill the radiator slowly to avoid bubbles or air locks. If I can help further please ask.

Lee, Hi and Welcome to iRV2. Cant help you on price , mine were done at the same time as the water pump.
A few questions though.
How long does it take to over heat ? Idle or highway driving ? Side or rear radiator ? Is the rad fan picking up to full RPM when the engine heats up ?
Are you getting a warning light or a fault code when the derate occours?
