30 micron fuel filter to 10 micron

Several days ago I called Freightliner and asked about the pre-fuel filter in my2 filter, 2006 CAT powered Discovery. The advised it was a 30 micron unit.

I know some CAT powered RVs came with a 10 micron pre-filter installed. When I purchased the coach several months ago, I noticed the prior owner had installed a WIX 33630 , 12 micron nominal filter.

I question Freighliners choice of filter application. I find a 30 micron fuel filter feeding a 2 micron filter a bit mis-designed.

Is it OK to keep what I perceive to be a lower micron filter, the 12 micron in place of the 30 micron unit? Can I replace the 30 micron with 10 micron filter?

Thanks in advance.

Yes replace the filter to at least a 10 micron filter.
Be sure your 2 micron filter is rated as Absolute 4 micron or less and NOT a normal
rating which does not meet Cat requirements.
I personally use 3 micron Absolute filters for both to protect the fuel pump as well
as the injectors.

The primary filter(pre filter) should be a fuel / water type filter

Thanks for the quick reply. I know you coach is powered by a 3126, but what filters do you use?

Thanks.

I use either Donaldson or Parker filters.
If you give me your filter part numbers I can give you their part numbers.

I went and looked and I use the Racor S3201S for the primary filter
This filter may not fit your filter base
