Since you didn’t mention what engine you have my response is for a 3126 or C7.
One way to assess your water pumps basic condition would be to take off the belt and check the water pump pulley for excessive play in all directions and smooth operation when rotating. Do the same for the belt tensioner pulley.
Treat the tensioner bolts with penetrating oil before trying to loosen and be gentle, you don’t want to snap one of those bolts.

Checked the tensioners for the big belt... that one rumbles so replaced...
