C10 Water Pump replacement procedure

I'm replacing the water pump on my C10 to eliminate one possible source of Glycol in the oil. Looks like I will need to remove the alternator and its mounting bracket. Aside from that there are just a few bolts to remove.

Any tricks to getting that pump off? Or that hard line that goes up to the thermostat? What about re-installing? Need to get that drive gear lined up and meshed properly.

Thanks - Fred

The C12 should be the same as the C10. Here is a procedure: https://www.justanswer.com/heavy-equ...p-cat-c12.html

Thanks that's very helpful. I found a few things on Youtube but this is even better. Pretty straightforward.

If this engine was in a truck it would be easy. But seeing as how it's buried in the motorhome, mounted backwards it was a bit of a chore getting it out of there. But I got it out and have the new one ready to go in. While I have it out and most of the coolant recovered, I'm going to put in a new thermostat and change a few hoses.

Now just hope that the pump was the source of glycol in the oil and the new pump solves the problem. It would not be fun to change the oil cooler or the cylinder sleeve "O" rings which are the other likely culprits.

Well - I replaced the water pump with a Cat Reman. Haven't tested the oil again but it seems like the oil level is staying where it should be and there doesn't appear to be any antifreeze in the oil. 1,000 miles so far and we will be putting another 1,500 on in the next four weeks so we will send a test sample after that. But keeping fingers crossed. (my buddy is a truck mechanic and he tasted the oil and said there is no coolant in it. He can taste coolant in oil if its there)
