C13 Oil Change Interval

Hi All,

We purchased this 2006 coach and the first think I did was get full servicing at Cat Ring Power. Now 10000 mikes later I am getting ready to have the servicing done again. This was the interval the previous owner kept according to him.

Just to see what was recommended, I looked in the owner’s manual and it said 30,000 miles between changes.

I am happy to change the oil and filters more frequently, but am curious what others are using as an interval for this engine.

Thanks!
Rick

I change my oil and filters every year, and I don't travel over 5000 miles in the year. If you are traveling over 10000 per year, with your investment, I would make it the limit at 10000. Don't forget to have samples of the oil taken, and also to cut the oil filter open and inspect it for metal shavings that get trapped in the filter. Simple ways of knowing what your internal components are doing

This may help. I pull and oil sample on every oil change and send it to Cat at a cost of $13.50

The CAT Service Manual says to change oil every 15,000 miles (shallow oil pan) or 20,000 miles (deep oil pan).

I would get an annual oil analysis and then change the oil when the analysis says to do so (or at the mileage interval regardless).

C13 Oil Change Interval

I have a C13 and I change my oil once a year. I then send a sample into Blackstone Labs and they let me know how it’s doing and compare it to previous oil changes for trend analysis. This last year I drive about 4K miles.Click image for larger version

Thanks!

I mistyped in my original post. 30,000 mikes should have been 20,000. The actual miles since the last change are just under 9000 miles. I am at 90,000 miles so I will get the 30,000 mile service done at the same time. This includes a sample.

Thanks for the input.

I changed my oil when I first bough the coach (last November) and it takes 10 gallons (40 qts). I used the Rotella T6 synthetic oil which is $5/qt. So that's $200 in oil and $40 for the filter.

Getting the oil analysis done each year rather than just changing the oil annually can save you $250 (if you do the work yourself) and probably $400 if you go to a shop.

I would recommend changing the fuel filter annually -
