I have a 2000 Beaver Marquis 42 with the in bay SCS AC system. It is on It's last legs and I am trying to find out if any of these units are available. I know SCS is out of business and the company that purchased their parts say the have very few and are very uncooperative. Has anyone replaced on of these with any other system?

Question, is there a device that will allow a private owner to read the codes on the caterpillar engine? Yes there is a program that was sold by caterpillar a few years ago that did exactly that. The Caterpillar "Pocket Tec" came in two versions. One for the owner operator and one for the fleet technician. The software ran on the "Palm Pilot" and could read all the codes that the engine generated. It not only gave the codes being generated, but those stored in history, and a record of "events" that had occurred. The codes were numbered and it also gave the description of the code. IE code 102-7 Boost overpressure sensor not responding---
Sadly, the program was replaced with a much more detailed, expensive computer system now used in the cat shops.
I have had mine for some years now and originally just had the owner program but when cat discontinued their support, they freed up the fleet software at no charge. I now have that program as well. It allows me to clear codes, change some settings on the ecm such as latching or unlatching the cruise control for the engine brake etc.
It does not however provide a numerical listing of all codes ( at least as far as i know) so I am also looking for a complete list of all the codes.

The amount of information in the ECM is really amazing. I have a printout for my engine from when I had a injector replaced. It is 5 full pages long! It is identified as "Caterpillar Electronic Technician 2009A v1.0 Configuration". The tech plugged his computer into the data port and pushed a button and out came 5 pages. It included a history of all the service and repair that was done to it by CAT-where and when. It listed all the configuration parameters available and how they were set. There was no charge for doing it. The ECM data showed them which injector was bad.
