According to the freightliner repair shop the Heiu (fuel) Pump failed and distributed metal pieces throughout the rest of the fuel delivery system, destroying all the injectors. Total repairs. 2 days and $7298.87.
My research indicates that Cat has known about this problem for a long time and has failed to take steps to remideate the problem. My unit only has 36,000 miles, seems awfully soon for that type of equipment to fail due to lack of the integrity of the material. At first blush, Caterpillar denies any warranty responsibility due to the age of the coach.
Anybody got any tales to tell ??

I am looking for a used MY, probably an Allegro Bus. In my research I came across this problem with the C7. I watched, and posted on here, a YouTube video about making your C7 bulletproof. You might want to search for it and watch it.
They believe the problem is a plate on the side of the engine [believe it was oil cooler]. There are three areas under this plate. Two are unfiltered oil and 1 is filtered oil. Some of the plates are not flat, letting the gasket fail and unfiltered oil gets into the filtered oil which then goes to the HEUI pump and the oil has contaminants that destroy the pump. Their solution is to put an inline oil filter in the line before the HEUI. This will catch the contaminants and protect the pump. There is a HEUI kit that you can get with a new pump that includes the inline filter. Don't know if they offer the line by itself with the filter. Cat should be doing a recall to install this. I doubt they will since they are all out of warranty now.
If I had a C7, I would see about getting a new oil line installed with the inline replaceable oil filter.
