Dipstick Problem

My FW Excursion (07) is powered with a Cat C-7 350 HP engine. Problem is when checking the oil, the dipstick will only return to within about 6-8 inches of seating. It sometimes takes 5-10 minutes of turning and twisting to get it around whatever obstruction is interfering with its return to the cranckcase. This then makes the simple process of checking the oil level a sometimes 30 minute chore. Does anyone else have this same problem or any experience curing it or diagnosing the cause ?

It sounds like the tube isn't in the correct position. Look underneath and see if you can maneuver the the tube to a better angle

Tube could be damaged or dented.

had the same problem found it was to close to the turbo an had melted. It is made of heavy plastic or rubber so the heat does affect it. Cat replaced it under warrenty.

dip stick

i've got the same problem slammer. just checked it tonight and it stops about 6-8 inches shy. i wear cotton gloves and i press hard on the dipstick with a little turn left and right and snap it goes in. i've looked below at the tube and it seems to fit up correctly. been like that since new.

This seems to be fairly common. Here's what I do. When the dipstick stops, pull it back about an inch. Twist counter clockwise and push in. You might have to pull and push (only about an inch or so) a couple of times, but it should go right in.
