Peterbilt was very friendly and did take appointments but had two complete engine overhauls this week.

DW called around and found a Kenworth dealer that doesn't show up in a google search. They say they have time and we are taking the coach there in half an hour.

I did get the energy to take the braces off the bed so I could fold the board up against the wall and remove both steel covers. I still can't pick out the HEUI pump or the IAP sensor so having the Kenworth dealer is my best bet.

Good luck-- hopefully it will be the IAP sensor.

After 60 minutes of exhaustive troubleshooting the tech and the parts dept agreed that it is indeed the IAP sensor. The only code was 15 and I asked them to start my hard starting engine with the sensor disconnected, they did and it started instantly and purred so I'm on board with them. Not being a Cat dealer they had to order it and will install it tomorrow afternoon. Keeping my fingers crossed!! Thanks for the video.

Glad to hear Dick. I've experienced the IAP several times. That little bugger will cause the symptoms your are experiencing.

Keep us posted!

Just my two cents, this is exactly why I installed the IFS kit from George of Delam Solutions. It’s designed to trap the metal fragments from a failing HEUI pump, limiting the overall damage.

Talked with Cat mechanic yesterday. Said that the new replacement HEUI pumps have a post filter built in! (?)

We are FIXED! Runs like a top. I'm gonna miss the 10.6 mpg we were getting at 40 mph in limp mode (NOT!).
This was Rihm Kenworth in Winona MN and I highly recommend them.
$160.03 for the sensor
$215.05 for labor
Absolutely a wonderful experience.

He’s mistaken. Some new pumps come with a pre-filter. It will help protect the HEUI, but it does nothing to protect your fuel rail in the event of a HEUI failure. The IFS kit is the only post-filter system that I’m aware of.

Good for you, not a bad overall repair bill.

Bingo! Good for you Dick. I actually carry a spare IAP after seeing so many that have failed. The simple unplug test takes the "guess" or "opinions" out of the picture and saves many other expensive components from being replaced.
Cheers
