Idler pulley, anyone just change the bearings?

What surface did you smooth on the lathe (the face that mounts against the block)?

Also, what kind of lathe do you have? A min-lathe (bench top) or full size? Just curious - I would love to have a lathe in my small work shop just not sure what size (and if I can afford one).

Smoothed the faces and the contact surface by several thousands...

The contact surface had lips on the outside... Not sure if those were intentional by design, or the center of it just wore down, so, made it all smooth.

I have the harbor freight mini-lathe, works great, use it all the time. Usually I am cutting brass or aluminum parts. On steel, it works, but the cuts are very small...

This lathe has paid for itself many times over. You should buy one, about $400 or so...

FWIW, I did not surface the V belt pulley, but I did bead blast it.

Bead blasting the serpentine belt tensioner is how I found the spider cracks. I sure am glad I did that!
