When purchasing our coach, it was found to be leaking a little oil and enough for putting spots on the toad. After some fruitless attempts for a fix, by the consignment dealer, pulling the oil pan and such, me looking down under and what looked like it was coming from above the starter, the fix was for draining the oil and calling CAT with my serial number, for the proper qty. of oil, regardless of what the book said, which was a qt. more than CAT tech support said. With my installed oil pan, the C9 takes 33qts and no more.
Mine is next to impossible to check and for getting the same reading, every time, so as long as it's around the add or below mark (the apparent full mark), I feel good to go and haven't added any, since the last oil change.
I had already hung a plastic bottle on the slobber tube, with air holes drilled and a little steel wool in the bottom. Not getting much in there, either, but will drain and clean things up, at next oil change.
