Power loss at end of trip

Yesterday, following a short (just over an hour) drive to the campground, we lost power . Tach started showing 0 RPM even though moving. Like it was reading, then not reading.
Could not go more than about 10 mph. Since less than a mile from the campground, we limped it in. When we stopped briefly, and idled, it did a little better. There was a check engine light on and off intermittently. Oil light and alarm NOT on. Checked the oil when cool and level is fine. Transmission temp showed a little lower than expected. I have not checked trans fluid since I shut down before I thought of it.

Any thoughts on what I should be looking at?

Coach is a 1999 Newmar Dutch Star
Engine a cat 3126, Allison transmission

Appreciate any thoughts

This sounds like a sensor failure ; possible engine speed/timing sensor ; but without a code everybody will be guessing , myself included .

Engine speed sensor is in the back of the timing gear housing between the air system compressor and the block , diagram shows the location with the air compressor removed.
Diagnostic codes are in the engine pdf .
I included the no start info in case the engine doesn't start tomorrow.

Thanks, I appreciate it. The no start checklist suggests a couple of things to check, notably making sure the fuel filter is good and no trapped water. I should also be able to check the engine codes. I guess we'll see.

Here for a couple of days. Ideally I'd like to sort what I can before the day we're supposed to drive.

The diagnostic plugs on my coach were well hidden , took me 40mins behind the dash to dig the front one out of the wiring harness and get it to an accessible spot .I found the rear plug and a seven foot long loop of wiring laying on top of the transmission while greasing U joints , it's now zip tied to the transmission dipstick tube and run all the way to the back of the coach.

Freightliner chassis underwent major wiring changes in Jan 1999 , some 99 DSDPs are on 98 chassis . Do you have a decal like the one below ; low on the wall to the drivers left ; to give you the chassis build date ?
