Replacing C9 Oil Pump

Hi guys new to the forum. Anyone replace a C9 engine oil pump? Reman is $450 but a new one is $1200? Big price difference. My concern is the steel pressure regulator sliding inside the aluminum pump housing. The pump housing can wear. I would assume the reman from Cat is a new housing as well but not sure. My hot oil idle pressure is around 10 psi and my other motor is around 19 psi at 600 RPM's. All year I have watched it slowly decrease despite proper maintenance.

I agree that 10 psi sounds really low but I remember adept ape on YouTube discussing that and I believe he said that is still in factory spec.

Here’s a video he made about the C9 engine

Does the idiot light come on? It might be the gauge is reading low

I had my oil pump replaced in 2017 because of high oil pressure at startup. My dash gauge would read max 100psi and my Silverleaf reads 128psi. Cat here on the forum helped me out, I sent him my S/N and he sent me the factory specifications. Cold start up is 87psi so I had a reman pump installed because they said there were no new pumps for my S/N. Cat gave me all the information I needed for Peterson Cat to order the parts. I think my reman was around $350 with a core charge of 500, so they want the cores. Now it reads 87psi cold about 52psi down the road and 25+- at idle running Amsoil 5w40 Syn oil

I quess high oil psi isn't what it used to be. Ran both today port was 16 psi at hot idle and stbd was 21 psi at 600 rpms. At 2200 port was 38 and stbd was 45 so idk maybe let it go another year. My Cat had digital LCD readings that give you all the info you could ask for. Display is a cold start which shows different oil psi.

Took 40 hrs it replaced the oil pump and out flow elbow, elbow is still a single bolt design which is a joke but anyway oil pressure is up 15 psi at all temps and RPMs matching the other engine. I took apart the old pump and the steel regulator thimble had burrs on it.

Oil pressure is now a match on both engines. Hard to believe the internal regulator was the problem. Waste of money but it's fixed. Pulled journal # 5 looked good.
