If your belt routing is like mine , the tensioner won't work with a shorter belt .

EDIT: It's been a bad week for A/C compressors.

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f124/a-c-...lt-536255.html

Re-EDIT ; after an internet search for belt routing on a C-9 didn't yield a definitive answer on component location , I guess I'd better ask .
Which is higher on the engine ( left side looking at the motor from the back of the coach ) the A/C compressor or the alternator ?
If the alternator is higher; than the A/C compressor ; then the tensioner won't hold on a shorter belt . If the compressor is higher , a shorter bet might work.

The compressor is higher. I did some checking after it cooled down. My pulley for the compressor is turning as it supposed to. So... I'm gonna be able to make it home. Just got some work to do when I get there.

I will continue to work to find out that belt number/size as this could have been an expensive tow.

Does your coach have a side radiator , that would allow you to take pictures
of the current belt and routing ,and post them here.

If so I can detail how you could measure for the short belt .

You only have one belt so anything locked up can’t be good.

Not sure if Cat or the chassis manufacturer installed the A/C compressor , but when I needed one Freightliner gave me the P/N and after a two day search I went back and ordered from them , because they had the best price.

Early investigations with our C9 400bhp suggests that the tensioner 'spring' mounting obstructs the direct line between the alternator and idler pulley

The routing of the longer belt around the air con compressor pulley takes the belt away from the tensioner spring mounting

Not sure yet if it is possible to alter / rotate the tensioner spring mounting - more investigations needed

?? Does anyone else know different ??
