Sometimes it's the Simple Things

Hi Everyone,
Had a great couple stop by concerned about "low pulling power" while climbing grades in comparison to previous experience with their 3126c/330 HP.
Test drove and sure enough she was a dog. Installed my HEUI pressure transducer and again test drove to find the HEUI pressure was spot on at all loads. I noticed the fuel filter, frame mounted rear, had some rust around the top of the canister. I asked how long ago it was changed (should have asked this sooner). the reply was: "I don't remember". removed the filter, cut open at the top of the can and found the worst mess of debris I have ever seen. I happen to have a replacement handy and installed after pre-filling.
Power was back! Simple fix at times.
Travel safe!

Good deal!

It’s always nice to hear about a happy ending.

Yes it is.
Normally loss of power over time directs me to a HEUI issue, internal leakage of the pump, or a failing lift pump. However, this was a happy ending for these folks.

All coaches will have a fuel filter , most will have two , some will have three .

Don't forget to look for Freightliners hidden fuel strainer , usually only on Cummins engine chassis ; BUT; my Cat/Freightliner has fittings above the RR air bag where I think a PO had the strainer removed.

Skip, Thanks for sharing.
I haven't found that on any Cat/FL chassis yet. Might be on some manufacture I haven't seen just yet.
