Starting 300 Cat after sitting.

Have a 98 National Tradeswind with a 300 cat in it the problem I have is after sitting for a week or so it becomes very hard to start. The two enigne batteries almost drain completly down before it will start. Is there some whay to prime the engine prior to starting?

You might consider that it's the batteries that are low after the "long timesitting". Next time you put it away, disconnect the starting batteries. You might find they are draining during you down time. Just a thought.

Bcninaz, If you think it's fuel related (sucking air) you have a priming pump next to the long fuel filter. Check to see if the water separator filter (glass square filter) is full of fuel. If it has air trapped in the top part crack open the air bleeder nut at the top side of the filter, think it's a 9/16" wrench size. On the top front of your engine by your injection pump there's a small valve with a "T" handle fitting loosen that a couple turns,( you might want to put a small drip pan under there to save on the mess} now loosen the priming pump knob to the left and pull out and start pumping until you have solid fuel in the square glass filter, At this time tighten the nut on the side.Tighten the "T" handle when you see or hear fuel dropping in the pan. At the same time push in the pump all the way and screw it to the right until it stops, that will lock it. I hope this helps you. Also if either one of your filter are dirty it will cause hard starting.

Ok Thanks I will give this a try. This is what I was trying to find out if there was a priming pump on this engine.

Thanks Again,

Bill
