Thumbing around Summit mag. i ran across an add for Waterless Engine Coolant. The boiling point is 375 degrees. So has anyone have information on its use in a DP. Add says it can be used in Light Duty Diesels.?

There are a lot of liquids with high boiling points; even regular anti-freeze concentrate ; problem is they ( including anti-freeze concentrate ) gel up at lower temps ; any indication of how effective it is as an anti-freeze ?

Or what kind of expansion rate it has at temp , because if it expands and builds pressure beyond regular anti freeze solution , how will a regular pressure cap contain it ?

I had a friend that was into racing and i spent many late hours working on his cars.

He used the waterless coolant. What I rember is it was very pricey and expandion was very low. A hot engine maybe expansion would be 1/8 of a cup.

If it doesn’t say cat approved don’t use it. MH engines are not light duty diesels.

That would be my concern. A diesel needs the stuff to keep to stop cavitation, or the blocks get pits and could start leaking

I agree. With your engine Caterpillar ELC. 6+ years of "put it in and forget it" (no SCA testing or adding).

if you run your engine at 375 deg then it would probably be just fine. I like to keep mine a couple of hundred deg cooler so I use water antifreeze mix.
From what I can remember yrs ago when I looked into waterless coolants is , the waterless stuff is it doesn't conduct heat as good as water so it will not remove heat from an engine as good as water /antifreeze. It will also not transfer the heat as good to the radiator , so if your engine runs hot now , it will run hotter with the waterless coolants.

It's been awhile that I have used Evans Coolant in hotrods but like mentioned very expensive and it doesn't like to be mixed at all with water, 10% or less even. So when you put it in you need to get all the old stuff out first. It doesn't expand much and the boiling point is quite a bit higher.
As for engines like in the m/h's I never tried so can't say but I do have a jug in the shop so I will have a look tomorrow and see what it says on it.

Ok I got curious because I remembered something about diesels so I went and had a look at it. Do your own research but if mine was newer and I was going to do the first coolant change I would put it in and hope I never blew a hose and had to buy it again. Here is what the label says on the back of the jug.

Sorry I tried to rotate it but it still came out sideways.
