Not really a waste as long as you recycle the old fluid. But I wouldn't go that route. With a device that's designed for many millions of miles, a little bit of the wrong fluid isn't likely to harm it. But, I would also send in a sample to Blackstone
When a tech accidentally poured a quart of 15W-40 motor oil into my transmission, that's what I did, had it tested after having the shop flush that oil out and refill with ATF.
Blackstone said it was fine. Then I sent them a sample twice more. After 2,000 and 5,000 miles. And they again said it was fine. And that was motor oil. Your contamination was with an AT lubricant.
