I have an 03 w22 (fleetwood bounder) and I don’t know the history but it has 31k on it. I was going to do the transynd but would it have had the other fluid in there first? I’m confused and didn’t want to fill and drain again if I don’t have to I was going to drop the pan replace the filters and gasket and put the 10 or so quarts back. The trans shifts amazing but the gasket leaks and the po had some place top it off because it was a quart low so I just want to take care of it. Thanks!

Not to worry. You can mix AT fluids without harming anything. Since the fluid you have only has max 31K on it, I'd reclaim it as you suggested when working on stopping the gasket leak. Use a clean pan, several layers of cheesecloth stretched over the pan as you unbolt the cover (or drain plug if your tranni has one). Or even pumping it out would work. I wouldn't even bother to R&R the filters, they are going to be fine. (This assumes the old ATF is the right color and doesn't have a strong burnt smell).

You can tell if it's mostly Transynd if it's purple. One quart of some other ATF isn't enough to make much of a difference in lubrication properties.

There is a Allison engineer here on the forum, you can contact him and ask your questions via PM. If it's not an Allison tranni he is a tranni expert and would likely still help.

BTW, Transynd has been superseded (and fully reverse compatible) by Allison TES 668®.

Use that instead, as it is a better fluid.

Thanks guys! Yes I’m using the new fluid. But is a fluid change at 31k a waste? I have new filters and was going to go get the fluid it’s being sent to my local oreillys

Just my opinion but if the MH is new to you and you don't know the history. Change the filter & fluid while fixing the leak.
Why cheap out and reuse fluid?
Allison's will treat you well if you treat them well.
If you have questions and lean towards saving the fluid have it analyzed.
JGLube Svcs is a member here and does oil / fluid analysis.

Not really a waste as long as you recycle the old fluid. But I wouldn't go that route. With a device that's designed for many millions of miles, a little bit of the wrong fluid isn't likely to harm it. But, I would also send in a sample to Blackstone for testing.

When a tech accidentally poured a quart of 15W-40 motor oil into my transmission, that's what I did, had it tested after having the shop flush that oil out and refill with ATF.

Blackstone said it was fine. Then I sent them a sample twice more. After 2,000 and 5,000 miles. And they again said it was fine. And that was motor oil. Your contamination was with an AT lubricant.

Thanks guys, I was going to change the internal filter too when I replaced the pan gasket but I ordered the regular one and I guess I need the deep one but now I’m reading that Allison says not to change the internal filter unless rebuilding the unit… so should I just replace the gasket and the screw on filter and the fluid? Thanks!
