1000 trans light
Started put this morning and somewhere under 25 miles, the "trans" light came on. This is a 1000, 2003 W-22, 8.1. Next I noticed the rmps were at 2500 at 65 mph where normally it's at 2300. I stopped and checked the fluid and it is full. Only 30 miles to home so off I go. About 10 miles later, rpms drop to 2300 an the light stays on. Two miles from home, I stop in a parking lot an drop the car, start the engine an the trans light is off an stays off. Any ideas? Thanks.

Best guess would be that it's slightly overheating, but from what you describe, that sounds flimsy.
Was the fluid clean (no debris) and smelled OK?

Fluid was bright red and no burnt odor. Took the rig for a 15 mile test drive this a.m. with no light, no problems. I will find an Allison service center and have them read the codes. Thanks.

rich......I started a thread in the National RV section asking what it would mean if the TRANS light went on while we were driving. We both have a W22 and Allison 1000.
I am curious if any bells started clanging when your display light came on ? Also do you have an ACTIA readout? Thanks in advance.

scooter--
No bells or anything else, I just happened to notice the "trans" light. I don't have the ACTIA cluster so can't help there.

Just curious, how do you have a W22 without Actia cluster?
To your original question, is there any chance you had the OD switch turned off? From your speed vs RPM readings it sure seems like the tranny didn't upshift to 5th (for some reason). That alone should not have caused the light, unless it was the "OD off" light. Even if you were in 4th and doing 65+ MPH there was no harm done, IMO. The fact that the light was off after your re-start should mean everything is OK. Ed

ED, the OD was on. Normally, when it shifts into OD, there is at least a
500 rpm drop (don't remember exactly how much). This one time it was only 200. When scooter mentioned the ACTIA cluster, not knowing what that is/was, I Googled it for images and "it ain't what I got". Why or how? I don't know.

RICH:
I only mention all the following in case you have trouble with your dash, especially the LCD "message center", which has caused so many a lot of grief. Just because your "cluster" doesn't look like what came up in a Google search does not mean yours "isn't". Actia makes many styles for many different customer applications.
I believe ALL the W series chassis ever produced used the Actia cluster. I'm positive my 2003 W-22, under a Newmar Kountry Star, had an Actia cluster because they had to replace it.

As I posted, AFAIK, all the W series chassis were equipped with a cluster made by Actia. The "cluster" is more properly called "instrument panel". It was provided to the coach builders as part of the chassis. Each coach builder "surrounds" this cluster with a dash of their own design.

Here is a link to my instrument panel. I don't think I have one of the LCD
panels. The "trans" light that came on is on top above "brake". http://www.workhorse.com/fedexground...%20Manuals.pdf

Sorry, I should have known the link was to the document and not
just what I was looking at. My panel is shown on page 1-51. Also,
thanks for taking the time trying to help me understand this.

To all:
I don't have an ACTIA cluster says Patrick Yuen of ACTIA. He referred me to AJR International and Dan Nicasio. This is the cluster we have....apparently.
