3000 MH filter change
I am gathering materials needed to change my Allison transmission filters. How do I confirm my sump depth, 2' or 4". My Allison serial number is 6510768221-3000MH.
Can someone confirm my filter kit numbers?
Thanks!

You might want to consider taking your coach to American Bus in
Annapolis. The specialize in bus chassis, which are the same as
RV chassis, and they will know exactly what to do, and can also
advise you on all other regular maintenance. They are excellent.

Measure the sump depth from the gasket. It's easy to tell and then get the 4" or 6" filters. 4" for the 2" sump and 6" for the 4" sump. Or, you could just call Allison with the trans serial number. In fact just going to the Allison dealer with the number will work too.
All the 3000MH trans we've had have been the 2" sump but that's not a given by any means. Our present rig has the 4000MH and I need to measure it someday.

Be aware that the flat gaskets (not the o-ring seals) on the bottom plate cover can be a real bear to remove. I spent most of a day with gasket remover to get them off cleanly. (most of the time was waiting for the remover to soften the gasket material).

I've never had that much trouble with any I've done. You must have gotten "lucky"!

Thanks, everyone
I will measure from gasket to bottom of pan latter today. I did attempt to get my info from the Allison "My Transmission" site but couldn't find my info.

OK, measured from the gasket to the bottom of the pan, looks like 3.25". So I would guess it's a 4" sump. I will order the filters.
Thanks all!

Torque wrench... all soft aluminum, you do not want a stripped bolt hole. :(

Hayward If your sump measures 3.75 I am almost certain that is a 6 inch sump. My 4 inch sump measures just under 2 inches.

Thanks scampers227,
The Allison transmission book only identities 2 options 2" or 4" sump. I have ordered the filters for the 4" sump. I will update in a few weeks.
