3060 WTEC-II Error code 2216/2511
Getting these 2 error codes and I havent even moved the RV, still has park brakes engaged..
I get the N N and then select 1st and 5 secs later get the beep, goes into limp mode and I get a 2511. D2 shows me 2216. D3-5 are empty.
I clear the codes get the N N then select reverse and it will sit there forever and never toss a code until i put it back in drive.
Additionally, if I turn the key off the keypad stays on. If I physically disconnect it's negative wire and reconnect it will stay off until I turn the key on again.
Allison manual says 2511 is the output speed sensor @ 0 in 1st. The 2216 simply says OUTPUT SENSOR. I know where the one is on the transmission right near the output shaft, but is there another sensor for the 2216 code?
Allison manual says that the ECU is always on and is triggered by IGN.. however, the keypad will stay on as long it the output sensor senses the vehicle is in motion. Im thinking that whatever sensor is related to 2216 might be bad and the ECU always thinks that there is forward motion, thus making sense that it would toss a 2511 that it's not seeing any output from that sensor. Any ideas on the location of the other sensor? Any ideas on ohms I should be seeing from it or the other one should i find it.
Thanks in advance.

ok I'll try but I have never worked on my 3060.
I have a trouble shooting manual.
When I check the 2511 code the second step of troubleshooting stated that If 2216 was also present go to the 22xx trouble shooting section
The 22xx section has a chart that indicates 2216 is specifically for the Output Speed Sensor.
So as a first check, I would check the sensor with an ohmeter,
Here is what is in the chart
200 ohms at -40 degrees F
300 ohms at 68 degrees F
400 ohms at 230 degrees F
So if your working at ambient it would be about 300 ohms
Of course bad wiring would cause the same sympton.
Good Luck

Thanks greystroke... Does the manual specify the locations of these sensors? I know there is one right near the output shaft at the rear (or front since this is a pusher), I found it. No idea on the other(s).

Not absolutely certain but it appears that the Output speed senor is at the rear of the transmission. Looking down from the top it will be on the right rear plate.
looking down again, the Input Speed Sensor is on the right side all the tranny way up front close to the TC.
Now go back toward the center on the right side will be the turbine speed.
My pictorals do not specifically mention the 3060.
Let us know if your sensor is bad.

I have already ran a temporary separate power and ground direct from the batteries just in case I had a weird voltage problem, even though i didn't see any voltage issues on my meter. I am going to ohm the sensors this morning. If they check ok then I guess i need to chase each sensor's wiring down as to where they run up to the VIM up in the front of the Coach. I've already pulled the VIM, opened it up and all was dry, clean inside. I have found some other posts elsewhere on the net about this very problem and 1 of them required pulling the ECU and sending it to John @ Transmission Instruments for a rebuild. Evidently something in the ECU went goofy and was faulting on several codes even though the sensors/wiring were ok.
I'll keep this updated on my findings as this needs to be figured out before next Weds.. we're leaving for a long trip.

UPDATE:
Pulled both sensors at front and rear of transmission. One ohmed at 304 and the other at 308, so those aren't the problem so far. Still looking....
I'm calling Spartan to see if they have a wiring diagram from the trans to the VIM and into the ECU. I would like to ohm out from end to end with each of them. but no way to coorelate both wires on a sensor back to the VIM. They change colors somewhere.

Ok. Anxiously awaiting your results. I have been studing my engine and tranny for a couple of years trying to avoid the big payout on the road.
I bet it is the sensor. That is if your are getting good repeatable readings on your fault codes and not bogus codes in between.
So good luck and hope you have a safe trip.

Thanks for the update.
I have lots of schematics on my unit but I haven't found the ECU yet. In fact I haven't found the physical location of the ECU. I assume that it is under the shifter panel.
But if it helps the output sensor goes to B5 and B14 of the ECU. The pins on the cable when removed go left to right starting with B1 in the lower left of the cable.
Sorry I can't help more.

UPDATE:
John @ transmissionsinstruments.com gave me pinout ohm readings right from the back of the ECU plugs and they coorelate with the 300 ohms I was reading right at the sensors themselves. John feels it's a 5v issue with a power supply inside the ECU so I've pulled it and it's headed to Texas overnight.
We've checked all the sensors from end to end so there are no wiring issues, shorts or opens. I'll keep the thread posted once I get the ECU back from John. This guy is a GOD on these Allisons: Transmission Instruments

B5-B14 is OUTPUT
B6-B15 is TURBINE SPEED
B7-B16 is SPEED SENSOR
All those checked at 304-308 ohms, well within spec for 70 degrees outside. So the sensors have been checked themselves, and from end to end right to the ECU thru the wiring. It must be the ECU at this point.. that's why it's headed to John as Im typing.

Ooh.. nice troubleshooting guides Perry. I've dl'd and saved them for future reference. The ECU arrived at John's place today.. I'll keep the thread posted on what he finds as he really feels it's the ECU at this point after all the ohm'ing and troubleshooting we did across all the sensor circuits.
