Allison 1000 Spin On Filter

Had the fluid changed to Transynd in Dec/2010 when the brake recall was done. What could be some potential problems if the small spin on filter magnet might not have been installed. I've got some type of clean fluid leaking underneath in the general area of this filter and can't seem to locate where it's coming from.

Try taking the spin-off filter off carefully and inspect to see if the magnet is on. I am not certain however, if not having the filter on the control filter will cause it to leak. Possible, it is not seated correctly or not tight enough.

Another idea; clean the filter and the area under it, start the engine, run the tranny thru the gears, turn it off and inspect the area. if there is a leak, you will see fluid. I can speak from experience with this as one time I caused a big mess after not tightening the control spin off filter correctly. What an expensive mess!

make sure that an allison filter is installed.
i read on this forum that some other filters will not seal properly with the magnet installed. with the magnet installed some filters will not allow proper oil flow due to the placement of the holes.
my allison filter is red, pn 29539579.
do a search on this forum for more info.

The other BIG problem with spin on filters is that sometimes the old rubber oring from the previous filter gets left on and not noticed and the new filter screwed down on it so you now have two orings and it will leak. That is common with diesel oil filters. Don't know about Allison screw on filter but it is worth the check.

This is correct. I purchased a NAPA filter some tome ago and it didn't seat correctly. The thing looked just like the Allison one, but it leaked badly when I started the engine.

First of all, my apologies for taking so long to respond to all. The day after my post, I came down with a wham banger of some type of resperatory crud which I probably got from my DW who most likely got it from our year old grandson who most likely got it from some rug rat at daycare. This stuff will really lay you out for sure. Finally to the MH up to our oil change place which has a pit in the floor and found the filter was tight and the magnet present. The leak appears to be fluid from the Safe T Plus Steering Control Model 41-230. Kind of wished it had been a missing magnet as the above, to replace, is in the $500-$550 range. On the bright side it looks like it might be a DIY project. Oh the joys of owning our toys. My thanks, albeit a little late, to those that suggested things to try.

Sorry to hear about the Safe T Plus. Glad you are feeling better. He (or she) who has the most toys rules.......or has the most toy joy!
