Allison 2500 MH Shift by Wire Problem

Looking for similar problems to help determine true root cause. Had intermittent shifting problems which was related to the bolt on Shift-By-Wire (SBW) device on the Allison 2500 MH trans. No trans codes lead the Allision tech to take off the small cover plate on the SBW device (see photos) to check shifting alignment. When he did water fell out. Bad seal on the metal cover is likely issue. Replaced this very expensive part and now working fine.

You can see the rust so the water has been there a while. This is NOT part of the Allision Trans but rather added as part of the Freightliner chassis build out. Called Tiffin/Freightliner division and all they said was they have seen this happen a couple of times but now suggestion of root cause of the problem.

Has anyone looked into a similar problem? There was one recall for “shift adjustment” (Allison Tech Tip TT8009EN) the prior owner had applied in 2017 and I am looking into that fix to see if they had to remove the SBW cover to perform or maybe just a faulty seal during manufacturing? This thing is bolted to the side of the trans almost directly behind the passenger side real wheels so plenty of water driving during rain.

Thanks in advance for any constructive comments.
