Allison 2500 TRV Shifter
Just curious, was browsing some "Super C's" from the mid-20teens built on the M2-106 chassis and really didn't care for the ugly shifter sticking out of the dash. Since everything is drive-by-wire, I was curious if the stick could be replaced with a touchpad? I realize than anything can be accomplished with the application of sufficient funds, but can this be done reasonably or would it require replacement with the 3000 transmission?
Thanks!

The 2500 series , shifts with a lever on the side of the trans, and the shift units I've seen have a stepper motor to move the lever on the side of the transmission.
The touch pad sends a signal to the trans ECM that controls internal solenoids in the 3000/4000 series transmissions , to the best of my knowledge there is no one producing an interface to control the stepper motor type shift mechanism from a touch pad.

Just to drag this discussion out a bit further, I guessing that swapping in a 3000 series trans would be more involved than just the trans, control panel and trans ECM. If my limited knowledge is correct, the powertrain comes to the chassis builder as a package. Therefore, to do this swap would also require sourcing the correct engine ECM, if it exists.
Correct?
ETA - This is all just rhetorical as this sort of project is way beyond anything that I would want to be involved in. Just trying to expand my powertrain knowledge a bit.
TIA

I would think the engine ECM might require a re-flash ; particularly if the engine was " torque limited " to avoid over powering the 2500 series trans.
Chassis wiring harness would require MAJOR redo , between the dash and trans and communication link between engine ECM and trans controller would probably have to be redone too.

Thanks Skip! Even more involved than I suspected. Not for the faint of heart.

Not as easy as dropping in a 327 Chevy engine to replace a 283.

More than a bit of that in my past also, but at this age, lying flat on my back trying to get transmission bolts started just doesn't have the same appeal that it did back then...
