Allison 3000

Just did my yearly service and this time I changed the two Tranny filters. Alls well no leaks etc.,took for a test drive and it goes through the gears very nicely. When I come to a stop it downshifts normally until it drops into first gear and (I'll call it slams) shifts hard, really drops in. Just don't know if I cleared some crap and now it shifts correctly or if something happened. anybody have any ideas?

Is PAC Brake on?

This tranny shifts differently if the PAC brake is on. Try disabling that (or equivalent) and see if the slamming goes away.

On my AT645 it shifted hard in and out of first until I made a 5000 mile trip this spring. First now shifts smooth as silk. First really long trip since I purchased it. Maybe she needs a vacation!

Hi Jerry; As of yet I have not changed the filters in the 3000 Allision. Just a thought. I know there are 2 filters. I think one is called the lube filter and the other I don't recall the name of that filter. Are the filters the same or are they different from one another. Could it be possible that the filters go in a certain hole from one another? Just guessing here as I have not done this before! Also the Allison has a memory for driver input, if I remember that correctly. You might want to drive it for a while and see if it improves of maybe try disconnecting the chassis power and see if the Allision ECM will reset and start from scratch. There is an Allision tech. on this forum. Hope he reads this and has some better ideas than I do. Good luck! Also assuming that the transmission shows the correct fluid level on the shift pad!

What fluid was in it, and what was put in?
Is the fluid level correct?
Sometimes with a change in fluid it has to re-adapt. Disconnecting power does not reset an Allison TCM.
The two filters are the main pressure filter and the lube circuit filter.

Don't know if this is relevant to your problem but I'll throw it out.

My Allison 1000 transmission would downshift hard into first gear when I stopped. I thought it was the toad causing the bang. Went for a run with no toad and the hard downshift was still there.

I decided to switch to Transynd from Dexron iii which I was dual changing every two years.

Problem cleared up after I went to Transynd.
