Allison 3000 fluid and filter change

I have a md3000mh transmission in my 2004 Monaco and would like to diy the fluid and filter service, could someone share a link to the procedure and possibly a Parts list? Thanks so much

I don’t seem to have the part numbers, but my notes indicate 4” Allison internal filters, quantity 2, and the gasket was included.

I raise the coach all the way up on the air bags and then place jack stands under the engine cross member for safety.

If you look at the bottom of the Allison aluminum pan, you will see two round covers that each have several bolts holding them onto the pan. These covers seal with a large O-ring. Under the covers are the filters. Allison makes a short 2" and a long 4" filter for the shallow or deep pan. Your motor home should have the deep pan and take the high capacity filters: part # 29545779.

Allison recommends you use Transynd, but any synthetic fluid that meets their TES295 spec is okay. Last time I checked Summit Racing had the best price on a Mobil 1 Delvac ATF that meets TES295.

Attached is the Allison trans oil and filter change guide. Use the specs from the MH3000 trans. If you change it you will need about 19 qts.
Fluid loss with changing filters only is approximately 2 qts for the main filter and 8 qts for the lube filter.

Also, if you have TES295 fluid then the change interval is 300,000 miles or 48 months.

To get full Transyn upgrade/benefit/flush the fluid needs to be changed twice. The guy that wrote the formula for Transyn is/was on this forum, he has offers an oil analysis service as well from what I has read. He said all the certified are fine and a few that did not pay to test/certify were ok as well one brand non-certified he said no good IDR name. You can't beat summit for Mobil1, google for a promo code you may save a little more.

You do need to do 2X changes to get full Synthetic benefit. If you go 1X you simply stay w the shorter change schedule before doing your 2nd change and then going to the longrr interval.

I have attached photos of the info from Allison. Measure the depth of your sump if 2” go with shorter filters, 4” go with longer filters

Here’s a magazine article on filter and fluid service for the Allison 3000. If I were doing this service I would use the Allison TES 668 approved synthetic fluid and Allison filters.

The current Allison High Capacity Filter Kit part numbers for the MD3000MH are:
29558328 for 2” sump
29558329 for 4” sump

So, the allison book shows, for the 2" pan, MD 3000, 19 quarts for new build and 10.5 quarts for refill with filters. BUT there is and asterisk at the top of the column that states that it does not include the tranny oil cooling system or its hoses...

So, how much does the allison md3000, in a moho, actually hold, including the cooling system? added the 10.5 and not on the stick. added 5 more quarts and now over filled. Has anyone actually measured how much to refill with filters?? I don't need arm chair book specs, I have the books myself and can read...

last owner had oil changed by shop, charged him for 22 quarts of engine oil into the steel 3126B pan. Hahahahaaa.... front of his car was splattered with oil from the valve cover vent.... it only holds 19, I had to adjust the full line on the dip stick to rep the correct amount of oil.

So, having worked in shops, I know that they charge according the specs in the book rather than what they actually install to bring it up to just below full in both the engine and tranny. So, I'm not interested in the quantities from your shop receipts, would like to know if someone has actually measured how much they took out and re-installed???? anyone???

Have changed a number of Allison 3000 series filters and fluid.


19 quarts is what you will need to refill.


Most economic is to buy a 5 gallon pail of the Allison TES 668 and filter kit (take in your transmission serial number which is on the driver's side of the transmission) to any Allison dealer.


I have found their prices to be competitive and you know you will not be buying a filter kit that has been sitting on a shelf for years.

I have a 2" pan, when I pulled the filters they were not 2" filters, in any dimension.

The 4 inch pan that's like 30 qts. 2 inch is spec'd ar 16 qts, mine was 17.25. Th we re are some good youtube's. Make sure you have a torque wrench. There seem to be concern of striping the threads by the pros. They recemends to use the low number of the specs to set the wrench.

01 DSDP on a FL with a Cat 3126B, Allison MD3000. I did buy a 5 Gal of TES295 as required by Allison as Dexron3 does not seem meet their TES295 specs even through it is a synthetic oil.

So, you have actually installed a full 19 quarts into the tranny??? didn't replace the inner filter, just the outer ones, without pulling the pan?
