Allison 3000 MH temp rising
Changed my filters and fluids last month before this recent 2000 mile trip. All was well and the Temp stayed around 204-210 for the majority of the trip until the last leg (about 200 Miles). I watched as the temp slowly creeped up from the norm of 204-210 to 240. I pulled over, leveled the rig and checked the tranny fluid level by the dip stick and the touch pad... the stick had maybe an 1/16 above the hot line and the touch pad read OK... No other codes. The temp dropped as it idled back to normal range of 180-190 idle. I disconnected the toad and kept my speed down the rest of the way home (less than 100 miles) with the temp at 237 stopping once to let the temp drop back down.
Looking for any ideas...

Even the 204-210 is above what I see for normal on our 4000MH. Mine usually stays right around 180-185, on a hard pull I see 220 at the most. Is your radiator/oil cooler clean?

What was your engine temperature? Transmission is primarily cooled by the radiator, so if the engine was running hot, the transmission will climb as well.
Try and live up to your dogs opinion of you.

Were you pulling long grades? If not I would guess (thats what it is) the oil cooler radiator needs to be cleaned. Simple green and a good water stream from a hose. Don't power wash as radiator could be damaged. Don't ask me how I know.

That engine has a stand alone oil cooler radiator.

Radiator is clean and as noted it is separate from the engine that was running at normal temps. I am using synthetic fluid. The creep was at a rate of about 1 degree per mile.

Mine is a 4000 behind the ISX and on relatively flat terrain usually runs about 5-6 degrees higher than engine temp on the Aladdin. I believe my 3000 behind my C9 did the same but it's been awhile. I do remember that when I pulled over and set high idle the transmission temps would always come down fairly quickly. That seems high to me. Does your dash gauge and your computer temps show the same indications?

Time for the Allison Guru to help you. He will chime in soon I am sure. Sounds like fluid isn't flowing through the rad. Question is, why?
I don't remember the Allison guys screen name, sorry.

I am going by the Aladdin temp readings, the gauge on the dash seems to be on the higher side but not extreme. I believe the Aladdin is more accurate

With your transmission fluid cooler in the engine coolant radiator, your transmission temp should always be within a range of 4-10 degrees above the engine coolant temp. This is running normally at partial throttle. The transmission heats up in stop & go traffic as the torque converter creates heat when unlocked. When climbing a grade the engine will heat up faster than the transmission.
You say you changed fluid recently. Did you change your coolant? If so you might have an air lock in the radiator & not getting heat transfer at the transmission fluid cooler.

It must have been the beer opening... LOL
I did change both filters and used the Transynd fluid, both purchased from the authorized Allison dealer. I changed the fluid because it was the third year and neither the fluid or filters had been changed. It also ran great for about 1800 miles afterwards.

Steve, yes I did a drain flush and replaced the radiator fluid. I do not think it is related because the engine temps have stayed constant in the normal range of 195-204

Steve may have a good idea here. I'm thinking it's more engine cooling system related than transmission related. Could be a sticky thermostat or the coolant glycol content is incorrect and has dropped the boiling point. You'd have to have the coolant checked through coolant analysis to know for sure. I'd change out the thermostat to see if that helps.
