Allison 4000MH...Cat C-12 505HP

I 've had the MH for about a year. Normal temps have been around 207-210 on Aladdin. Just had the tranny fluid and filters changed. Mechanic put Amsoil ATF in the Allison. Noticed the temps rise to about 220 or so on 300 mile trip. checked fluid level and shifter panel says fluid level ok (L ok). This is a higher temp than I have heard from others with same approximate setup. Engine temp a solid 188 on Aladdin. Is this an issue? Trip was all in Florida, on I75 and I10, outside temp mid to high 80s. Thanks

Amsoil is NOT approved for use in Allison transmissions. Amsoil says it's "designed" to meet the TES 295 specs but it's never been tested by Allison. I'd take it bak and have them do the two change method Allison recommends at the shops cost, not yours unless you specified they use Amsoil for some reason.

If it hasn't been done, change the tranny fluid to TES295. This fluid provides extended drain intervals.

The temps on my Allison run under 200 most of the time. Highest temp I've seen has been 205.

IMHO, you have a great engine in your coach. Had a C12 in an 01 Freightliner work truck. I did lose two injector "O" rings causing fuel dilution of the oil. After the second one went I had them all replaced. Only other issue was a water pump. The truck had 300,000 miles on it when I got off the road.

Freightliner is now using Mobile Delvac Synthetic ATF in Allison transmissions. This is a TES295 fluid.

They are using this fluid on new chassis builds at the factory as well as at the service center in Gaffney.

$8.66 per quart.

Thank you all for your replies. I don't think its the Amsoil. I think there is something else going on. Maybe fan or transmission oil cooler. I am going back to transynd or maybe the mobile listed above.

I agree that a good TES-295 is the best, but I also don't think that extra ten degrees is going to hurt anything. Dexron doesn't start to break down until 300 and even then it's not an instant failure.
