Allison MD3060 WTEC II shift buttons light up?

It seems to me that the shift buttons on my Allison controller in my 1997 Monaco Windsor used to light up when the running lights are on. Is that true? Its scary not being able to see what I am pushing in the dark. I have an MD3060, i think it is a WTEC II

If so, is there a fuse or other point of failure I should look at or am i looking at ringing out wiring? Is there a burned out lamp in there? I pulled up the allison manual but I do not see any reference to an internal lamp or method to replace a lamp. Im good at fixing stuff but I don't want to take this thing apart unless there is an internal lamp (i don't see evidence of an access cover from the available view). the way it is mounted I can see the lower half of the side with the arrows on it. the rest is hidden by a big mounting bracket that could hold moose in place.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Mine is different from that one, and now that you have mentioned it I don't know if it lights or not. We don't drive at night! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Mine lights up. But I'm not sure if it's identical to yours. My buttons are soft touch.

Control should light up

I took my WTEC out and opened it up. The shift buttons should light up. there are LEDs built into the circuit board. So it appears i have a wiring problem that is not triggering the lights.

Welcome to iRV2

Sorry your first post is about problems.

I don't know if the shift pad connector is the same for WTEC II & III , but here's a pin out for testing the dash connector; for the III.

One of the dimmer connections likely needs repaired.

Talk to john at Transmission Instruments. Phone # 972-353-8286. He gave me some very good advice when I had problems with my shifter was dead. If it still shifts ok you probably just have a bulb burned out.

definely not a light

Thank you, I'll call him but its definitely not a light. There are about 6-7 LEDs in the shift button area.

I found the WCAT service/diagnostic manual with master schematic and some other diags to see how it is all wired. I suspect a wire going to the vehicle interface box is disconnected.

There are a heck of a lot of wires there but it does not bother me. I used to do big fountain shows overseas and control panels for big water treatment plants. Lots of wires dont scare me.
