Allison mt643 trans torque capabilities

Hi I'm new to this forum but am impressed with the knowledge y'all have.
We are buying our first diesel pusher, a 2000 Winnie journey with 275 hp isb cummins and a Allison mt643 trans. I am kicking around the idea of turning up the engine some, not radical but more torque, maybe 100 ftlb or so. I have a 1996 ram with a 12 valve and turned it up over 750 ftlb it has over 250,000 miles and have had not one problem with her, so I am not worried about the motor, but am concerned about the trans handling it. I know cummins is conservative on what their engines will take, and I'm sure Allison is he same. I haven't been able to find anything out on this. So my question is will the mt643 take more power or would it require upgrades( line pressure or other mods to help with holding power).
Any help advice or prior experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thankyou darren

Hello BigIron32, our second motohome was a 2000 Journey in this configuration. The motor was outstanding and got great mileage however, the transmission was always missing a couple of gears. The other MH's with the same motor and a 3000 Alison always seemed to perform better. That said I tried to increase the HP and Torque and was told by Banks the transmission would not handle it. I may suggest talking to them today as that was about 6 years ago.

Thanks for the info, got ahold of a rep at Allison and he said it was about Maxed out. Did you pull anything with your journey? Haven't got it home yet. Curious how it does holding speed up and down hills, our current motorhome is a 95 vectra with a 454 and it's got to be worlds ahead of that.

I have that exact motorhome. We tow a '06 Ford Explorer. Yes it does slow down on steeper hills, driving technique make a lot of difference. We get about 9.5 MPG. Climbing Cowee Mountain in NC, 8% grade for 2 miles, we slowed to about 40 MPH. I'm a slow driver anyway so not a problem. Most hilly roads, it maintains speed good.

I did pull a heavy load quit often with my Journey, every year I pulled a 5500 lbs boat about 1200 miles through the mountains. The trip always seemed long and slow however the motor and transmission never let us down. Our mileage was outstanding and reliability tremendous. Today I have 6 speeds, 500 HP and 1550 torque, no comparisons however, our Journey went from new to 45,000 miles without missing a beat, great coach for this part of our life.

Thankyou for your responses.am looking forward to getting it home and enjoying the journey, I'm sure the cummins and Allison will be a welcome improvement over the 454.
