Allison no reverse

Hello I am looking at a new to me tow vehicle. 2001 international 4700.. has a 4 speed Allison auto transmission that goes forward but no reverse. I have experience with diagnosis and repair of ford trucks but no Allison s. I have seen many posts for the opposite condition but nothing on this. My question is would the truck be safe to drive to get it home where I could work on it. Thanks

I would have the fluid analyzed first. If the metal content is high then you may have to tow it with the drive shaft disconnected.
What model is the Allison?
I should also add that my experience with Navastar products in the last 20 years has been negative.

Probably best not to drive it.
If it's a four speed, it's likely an AT-545 or an MT643.
If reverse is out and drive is okay, it's most likely one of three things.
1. The fourth clutch has failed.
2. Check the selector linkage. It's a simple cable connecting to a lever at the transmission. Make sure when the selector says reverse, the detent at the trans is fully in reverse. It may be out of adjustment.
3. It's both. The selector was out of adjustment failing the fourth clutch.
