Allison Transmission

I have been told that there is a version (model) of the Allenson Transmission that has an issue. Does any one out there know which one it is? We are looking at trucks and have had a 2004 Silverado which was great. I realize that the newer trucks are more powerful but I really do not want to purchase an expensive truck and have to put it back for repairs.

Does CJ??? mean anything to any one?

I've been a member of several RV forums for 16 years now and I do not recall any stories of an Allison defective run of trannis.

You might ask your question over at RV dot net. They have more members and your question will be seen by more people.

It's probably not a worry though.

I'm like Jim....been on three forums over 10 years and have not heard of any reoccurring problem with an Allison transmission.

Could you tell us where you heard that?

We have had a Truck and Motor Home with the Allison, never had a problem. The individual that told me about the issue was looking to buy a new truck and said he saw the issue in Trailer Life.

Maybe the issue youre hearing is the new 2020 Chevy trucks. The have an Allison "branded" transmission. The trans is actually a GM built (designed in a joint effort with Ford) trans that is a 10 speed. From what I read the issue is the fluid needs to be changed as the fluid in it causes erratic shifting and jerking and other problems. I have heard the new fluid helps but doesn't solve the issue.

So no worries on an Allison trans. The problem trans isn't even an Allison.

Allison transmissions are bullet proof, unless you get water antifreeze in them then it's a toss up.

It's the only thing GMs built correctly.

Im right there with you!! They probably make some fine vehicles, but I'm not having one!
