Replaced Allison 4000 transmission in 2023. The Stewart & Stevenson tech suggested old style TCM replacement and I had them replace the TCM with the new style; $1178 was added to the bill.
I was told it is not a matter of if, but when the old style TCM will fail & strand you. They reported zero failures of the new style.
