Allison Transmission Service

Our Monaco has the Allison MD3000MH transmission with 48,000 miles. With a long trip coming up I wanted to have it serviced before leaving.

Can a truck service place change filters and fluids? Since no RV dealer is close and I am not sure an auto transmission place would do it correctly (one wanted to flush the system), I am left with one of two truck places locally. Also is it best to replace the fluid with transynd? Any other suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks
Wayne

Are you sure you need a service? Check here:
Fluid/Filter Change Intervals: Service: Allison Transmission

Here's the Allison service locator:
United States of America: Sales & Service Locator: Allison Transmission

If you change your engine oil, the 3000MH is even easier to change.

Without a doubt spec the Allison "high capacity" filter and not the "gold series" filters. The change intervals are far longer. Inspect the box for the filters they order to make sure. Also search this form for the specific part numbers or get them here:

I'd avoid an RV dealer too for the same reasons as an auto place. Additionally, if the service place gives you a huh? when you say TranSynd, go to the next place.

Search this forum threads for the TranSynd conversion. There is lots of info on it. It might be worth it for you. BTW TranSynd is about $40/gal for DIY. You can get your fill requirements (and the part numbers of the filters) here:

For engine oil and filter and chassis lube services consider SPEEDCO.COM

Thanks for the links. I printed some of it out for reference.

As far as the need for service, I have no idea when the previous owner changed the fluid/filters. So I will have a starting point, I want to get this done that way I will have one more thing off my mind as the travel date gets closer.

Definitely change with TranSynd oil and the Allison high capacity filters. Try looking for an Allison shop in your area. Reputable RV shops can do it as well, as long as they use Allison filters and TranSynd oil. Allison does not recommend flushing the transmission. Drain and fill only. If this is the first fill with TranSynd, you will need to service it 2X at the traditional oil intervals (12-24 months) before you can go to the TranSynd service intervals (36-48 months). TranSynd will handle heat much better than Dexron III.
