Cant find 1st gear 3000 Allison

On a fairly new to me 05 Winnebago Journey Cat 350 , Allison 3000
I have driven it some 1000 miles so far
There has been a few times . That after stopping . Engine still running while reading a map , etc

Then while pulling out it seems that the transmission can't find first gear .
Either I shuut the motor down and after a re start all is fine .
Or I would keep the pedal to the metal . The coach would crawl for a few yards and then find first gear .

Im no expert on this , but I checked for codes . Nothing came up .
Any ideas on whats going on in there ?

Have you checked the fluid level? When was the last time the fluid and filters were changed? Might be worth taking it to a good Allison shop to be checked out. Also might be bad connection in the cables between the ECM.

It almost sounds like your exhaust brake might be sticking partially closed. Try turning the power switch off to the brake & see if that changes anything. Also make sure that your idle speed is high enough. Most diesels like to idle around 700 rpm. Remember that the turbo takes a little time to spool up & start making power.

I purchased the coach from the original owner
He was in his mid eighties . And it only had 27000 miles on the clock
He did tell me not to change the tranny fluid As it was recientlly changed and re filled with synthitec fluid

Being hands on I have been going through things myself to know where Im at first hand
Other than that rare occasion It wouks fine .

Since it has only happened on rare occasions I may take many miles to check that out I will look into that though
