Cleaning Allison 1000 oil vent (breather)

I have an Allison 1000 trans in my Dolphin MH and in reading some of the literature it was stated that the oil vent should be kept clean. I can find no mention of how to clean it or if it should be replaced. I can feel the breather with my finger tips, but have no idea how to remove or clean it. Can anyone give me some idea of how it should be cleaned?

Thanks in advance for any advice

We had our 4000 series trans fluid tested and it showed high with dust in the fluid. Added an extension to breather then pit a small oil filter that I got at parts store which was an open filter ( no case) and installed on the rubber hose extension to keep dust down on our trip to Alaska. Will see in a year when testing fluid if that worked, A lot of dust on the long travel up north.
