Filter change fluid refill

3000 MH trans

I did the filters and lost about 4 qts. I have put 7 back in and after a 30 min drive it's to the middle of the warm Mark on dip stick. I can't get it warm enough yet to check with pad. Just get 70 code.

It was not low when I picked this thing up so I am.confused as to the additional fluid I am.putting back in?

If you want to heat the fluid to check, put it in gear with the parking brake on and idle up a bit so the engine is working, that oil will heat right up. Works best starting with warm oil after a drive or half an hour into a drive. But then it should be hot enough soon to warm the oil enough to read the level.

I think 295 was the standard then, the newer Allison spec is TES668 and also covers 295. You can try a JLG or CAT SOS oil sample and compare the viscosity to see if it's transynd or not, there is a long thread somewhere by a former Allison employee explaining all there possibly is to know about Allisons and transynd.

My Allison 1000 in a Winnie 2002, has never read right on the stick....always read in the Hot even when ice cold. Been told MAY be wrong made up dip-stick, May be a short oil pan.
Ran for 22 yrs. going to change oil and filter for the 4th time and fill it to the HOT mark on the dip-stick when cold....It has worked for 22 yrs. coopcolt
