Fluid and Filter Change

Getting ready to do a fluid and filter change on my Allison 1000 6-speed. Just wondering if, after draining old fluid, should I drop and clean the pan or just refill?

I would be sure the fluid is up to operating temp or close before you start draining. That should be enough.

No, do not drop the pan. Allison says never do that unless the 1000 transmission is being rebuilt.

Drain the transmission fluid and measure the amount that came out.

Replace the spin-on filter and move the magnet at it's base to the new filter.

Replace the same amount of fluid that came out with Transynd or any other TES 295 transmission fluid.

Drive at least 30 miles and then drain the fluid once more and refill with the TES 295 fluid again.

Do not do a power flush.

Thanks for the replies. My MH is in storage without insurance, so I don't want to take it out and drive to warm the trans. If I run the engine with it in Park or Neutral, will it warm the fluid sufficiently to drain? If yes, how long should I run it? TIA.

The TES-295 fluids are pretty thin at normal temps. I doubt you'll gain much by warming the trans up.

Run it about 20 minutes to get the fluid hot and then check the level before draining.

I use the engine temperature gauge to tell me when it's at operating temperature.

Pull the transmission serial number and go to the "My Allison" website and plug it in. It will tell you what pan you have, etc. Then you will know which filter kit to get.

A deep sump would be a little unusual , for your coach , but here are pictures of the 2" and 4" aluminum sumps that could be used on the 3000/4000 series transmissions.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't realize the P/Ns were cut off in the text of the third picture.
