Len,
I fixed my "no start" problem. It turned out that is was a strange glitch in the digital transmission display that locked out the starter. When I last hit the neutral button the display showed "RN" or maybe "PN". Probably the "RN", but don't remember. I figured that was neutral, so shut off the engine. After that, a couple of days later it wouldn't crank. After a lot of online research and a few youtube videos, I thought that the neutral safety switch was the problem. It looked like this was going to be a big job, since the NSS is likely inside the trans case. UGH!

After reading the Allison booklet called "Shift Selector operation and code manual", I recalled that the "RN" display was odd. It WAS! I turned the ignition key to on and pressed "D", then "N" and the display now read "NN". Yay! Will it start? Yep, back to normal. Turned over and started instantly.

I guess I'll never know what happened to have it shut down improperly, but I'm so glad it's working again.

Thank you for your description of your bypass. I'm sure our coaches are identical in most ways. My engine compartment layout is the same as yours. If your problem is the NSS, I saw online that our Allison 2500's can have the NSS inside or external, depending on the year made. Probably internal though and that means dropping the pan and the mess involved. There is a good youtube on it.

Here is that Shift Selector manual. It is labeled for 3000/4000 trans., but the guide came with my Winnebago Journey 34Y. Maybe some of it applies.

Best of luck with it,
Richard

Skip,
Yes, the Winnebago's with the Freightliner XCL chassis, come with the Allison 3000 series transmissions. I'd assume the Fleetwoods are the same, as in SC182's 40 footer.

I finally got my coach to an Allison shop to diagnose my neutral start problem. Turned out to be a bad transmission control module (TCM). Expensive fix! Strange that the TCM was not displaying any error codes.

When this happens, my technician's brain immediately jumps to "poor/bad electrical connection" at the connector or terminals that were disturbed and burnished by the operation of removing replacing the old TCM.

Suggest you hang onto the old TCM.
