NooB Questions on MD3060 Allison Transmission

I recently traded my gas MH for a 1998 Holiday Rambler Endeavor DP. As I've never had a Deisel engined vehicle before, I have a couple of questions about the transmission.

1. Is there an easy way to determine if the transmission has Dextron III or Transyd fluid?

2. I checked the transmission fluid level via the control pad and it shows
Hi 1...one quart overfilled.
How critical is this?
Will the transmission be damaged by being over full?
If I need to drain the extra fluid, what is the easiest way to do so?

Thanks in advance,

GrandpaLarry and my MUCH younger wife Mary

Oil analysis?

If you don't know what type is in it you probably don't know when the fluid & filters were changed last?

Our local Allison dealer recently had a sale on Transynd($30/gal) and filter kits(4" sump#29548988-$55). Our 4" sump MD3060 takes 4.5 gals when we do a fluid & filter change.

Get the model & serial# off the side of your Allison and your dealer will fix you up.

Just a reminder, I believe the Allison manual say temp has to be over 140 to check fluid using that method.
One quart will not damage it. I would definitely start shopping for new filters and fluid

FWIW My unit has a plastic label right on the oil fill tube indicating the type of fluid. Also, I think the internal fluid level system will allow you to check when you are NOT level. It does prevent for some other conditions. Make sure you are level when you check the fluid level. My unit also has a dip stick. It does Not agree with the automatic system. Allison says to go by the automatic system.
