Transmission check light

A friend has a 2001 Bounder Freghtliner Cummins 300isb Allison 6 speed 3000 trans.
He moved out of driveway back on to street to hook up tow.
Shut off engine and went back to start engine and his trans light was on but will not start.
Now no lights on shift touch pad but trans light still on.
Shut off ignition key put back on all lights display come on than go off but trans check light still on.
Engine will not start with trans light on.

Here is a link to a real good Operators Manual that will tell him how to read codes and what they mean. Lots of other 3000 - 4000 series info as well.

3000_4000_operators.pdf - Windows Live

There is a guy on this board called Allisonman that answers questions on Allison Transmissions. You can post in this thread or PM him for help.

He helped me diagnoise a output speed sensor problem. It's worth passing the problem by him and see what he says. He's a Allison tech and has a lot of information to share. I repaired my problem for $75.00 a bargin for any Alisson problem.

I ask him the same thing RKL he's not sure where it is cause the key pad doesn't light up to indicate what gear position it is in. Just read in Dick's post should always shut down coach in Neutral position.
I found out thats not something he has always done.
Could the key pad not lighting up cause the no start problem?
Thanks for both of your answer's, I will be checking his power situation in morning.

In the keybad box (underneath the keypad) is also the transmission ECU. If the keypad doesn't light up will also mean that the ECU has no power. If no power then the the neutral switch logic in the ECU will not let the motor start. This problem has been seen several times on this forum and most of the time it is either the fuse for the transmission or a butt connector on the power line from the battery. If I remember the fuse is a separate inline fuse coming off the chassis battery and there are also a butt connector on that same line. The best option is to call the Frieghtliner factory techline and ask them the location of the transmission fuse. Maybe somebody can give you the 800 number.
