Transmission Fluid

Just had Trans Fluid changed on a new to me 2005 HR scepter 44k miles, never change before, shop used synthetic ATF fluid, but not with TES 195 specs. Is this ok or is fluid TES 195 a requirement?

I don't have a DP, but at an Allison Transmission seminar I attended back in 2004 at an FMCA convention in Albuquerque, the technician stated that Allison teamed up with Castrol and developed Transynd transmission fluid.

He further stated if the new coach came with the Castrol Transynd fluid after the first 5,000 miles the primary filter needed to be changed and the amount of fluid loss replaced.

He said after that if the transmission wasn't equipped with a Retarder the next transmission service required was 150,000 miles. If the transmission had a Retarder service was required at 75,000 miles.

Not sure whether that still stands, but I would highly recommend you contact the Allison Transmission folks to best answer your question.

Best of luck and safe travels

As long as the ATF they used is on the Allison approved list it will be fine.

Here is a link to the approved fluid list.

If this were my coach, I would get a sampling kit from JG Lube services and see if the fluid is suitable.

The advanced analysis kit will cover your needs and if you post the results here, Tom will interpret. The sad thing is, your transmission was filled with Transynd and the shop just filled with their product. The correct spec is TES295 not 195. If it's not one of Allison's approved TES295 fluids then the Allison schedule calls for fluid and filter replacement at 12 months.

What was the original fluid?

What fluid has it been refilled with?

Is the new fluid on the Allison approved list in the link I posted?

Find out what they put in it and I'll direct you from there.

Let you know on Tuesday, the barrel is private branded indicating Synthetic ATF, will check with distributed and try to determine the Manufacturer , if I can,t want my $ back or replaced with Transynd.

Tom Johnson,
The Private Brand fluid is manufactured by RFT Ultra Syn. 05507 Multi Vehicle ATF. I have the Spec sheet which I could forward, but need an Email address,.
